Upcycled Heirloom for March - Women's History Month

I've said it before, I'll say it again - every woman has at least one box or drawer somewhere of keepsakes that are unusable in their present form. Whether buttons, shells, gems, broken jewelry, a single earring that lost its mate, pebbles or whatever, they are talismans. They have meaning. Despite their lack of apparent utility in their present disconnected form, they hold energy so important, they have been kept like a treasure.

I received a box bursting full of buttons that had been sitting in a basement. Before their period of hibernation, these buttons had been lovingly collected over a lifetime by my client's mom. To honor her memory and keep her close, this woman asked for a colorful necklace to be fashioned. In truth, I had always wanted to make such a necklace, so it was the perfect project for me to take on. Created during the month of March, which we have come to know these days as Women's History Month, I felt it a fitting way to celebrate the legacy of women - with a necklace created by a woman, for a daughter, using her mother's collection, which held so much history.

If anyone reading this is thinking, I wonder if Amy can do this for me? The answer is yes! Please fill out my Contact Form and let's get creating.

While many jewelers and designers out there may limit the scope of materials they are willing to invest time in working with to be of the "fine" variety, I am happy to discuss creating wearable art out of whatever it is that holds value to you. What legacy can we honor together?
