Initially Yours - April's Birthstone - The Diamond

April’s birthstone is the Diamond, and as an April baby, this one resonates especially with me. Diamonds are the dazzling epitome of duality: at once the hardest and the most scintillating. Strength plus beauty, diamond's applications range from the grit of manufacturing to the opulence of jewelry. How lucky to be born under the earthly graces of this stone? Growing up, I had a small pavé diamond birthstone ring in the shape of an A. I wondered what initials would possibly be added with significance to my life.

The diamond holds so much meaning - for many, a symbol of enduring love that holds the promise of a lasting marraige. As someone celebrating my 20th Wedding Anniversary to my beloved husband, Daniel, next month (married 5.7.5), I know how blessed and special wearing a meaningful diamond on the daily feels.

With this in mind, I wanted to give every jewelry lover the opportunity to know the power of the diamond personally. Wearing initial jewelry is a way to tell your story. Whether it is your own first initial or that of an important loved one, the piece is a touchstone to your core identity. Self expression is empowering. We all have our own name and a story to tell, entwining with others.

Being a jewelry designer I wanted to establish my own spin on initial jewelry. I was inspired by the Art Nouveau style lettering that appeared on creative advertising posters in Europe and America in the early 20th Century

as well as on concert posters in the psychedelic 60s.

Being a bench jeweler who designs with my hands, I achieved the tangible form of my inspiration by carving each letter first in wax.

I knew I would need to scale them down to make them wearable in 14k Gold. Working with a CAD designer, my vision was translated into printed pieces from which molds were made.

I work with master artisans to help me set the diamonds and do the finishing on these pieces to bring them to you.

This is my first time offering jewelry with Lab created Diamonds. These diamonds share all properties of Natural formed diamonds, but they are newly created under unnaturally occurring circumstances rather than created millions of years ago by nature. I wanted to make these initial necklaces at a price point that wouldn’t be limiting, so I have chosen to go this route. If you want one customized with a natural diamond, please contact me directly and I can make that happen too!
