CREATIVE INSPIRATION

I live, work, and play in New York City, which itself inspires me. Born here; it’s in my DNA. (I’ve called OH, NJ, NC, IN and England home too, but those are stories for another day…) What inspires me creatively with Amy Delson Jewelry? When the elements seem to arrange themselves, telling a story, where is it coming from?

ART DECO STYLE

The Chrysler Building and The Empire State Building were made with human grit and determination during the 1930s Great Depression, a height contest no less. Their miraculous symmetry, arcs and lines have a geometry that is quintessential Art Deco style. This style permeates ADJ designs like the Sasha Cuff, Amy Necklace and Colleen Collar.

 ART NOUVEAU STYLE

Though Paris, France in my opinion displays it best, examples of this style in NYC are those glass and oxidizing copper awnings that extend from residences near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the beloved early 1900s Tiffany stained glass designs exhibited in that museum. They embrace nature, femininity and fluidity. Art Nouveau style inspires me to create organic pieces like the ADJ Carla Cuff, Maura and Kristen Necklaces.

INTERGENERATIONAL BONDS

I adore that jewelry spans generations. I have my dad Michael's Greek honor society keys from 1967 and 1970, which my mom Phyllis wore on a pearl bracelet. It was one of my favorite items to inquire about as a young girl. I've always loved looking for charms, especially from estate jewelry. The base of my own charm bracelet is vintage and started out empty, and I've been loading it up with milestones. When I work with clients, I love to incorporate talismans of their own. Jewelry should tell the story. My dream is that these pieces we create together will in turn be handed down and talked about for generations to come. Another favorite piece I have is the enameled and bejeweled snake bracelet handed down by my aunt, Elaine. Vintage and modern energy is a big part of my aesthetic.

SPIRITUALITY

Call it cosmic conciousness, a faith and belief in something larger than yourself. It connects you peacefully with the planet and gives you purpose. Our world offers stones, whose chemical composition impacts their energy and meaning. I love to use spiritual symbols and natural stones in my jewelry pieces. If they give the wearer a sense of calmness and productive energy, that has a positive impact, inspiring their highest intentions. As Marie Kondo aptly says, it "sparks joy." ADJ incorporates Hamsas, Buddhas, Moons, Stars, Zodiac and Oms. What sparks joy for you?
